The Third Sunday after Pentecost – Proper 6
June 13, 2010
Happy Birthday in the coming week to Cindy Vail, Irene Findley, Lewis Heald, Kittie Everitt, Jennie Sturgis, Jenifer Marquardt, and Owen Dixon.
Happy Anniversary in the coming week to June and Milner Ball, and Joan and John Curtis.
Today
Sunday School for children from pre-k to 5th grade. We begin with singing in the sanctuary from 9:15 _ 9:30, then have our workshops upstairs in the Christian Ed. building from 9:30 _ 10:15. Come join us!
Sunday school for the children will continue throughout the summer, except
for Sunday, July 4.
Rite-13 and J2A classes will not meet during the summer. They will start again when school starts.
Child care is available during the Christian Education hour, 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and during the 10:30 service. If you would like your child to join you for Communion, please let the nursery staff know and pick him or her up anytime during the service.
Adult Sunday School: Beginning next today, and continuing through September 5, the Adult Education Forum on Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 will be discussing the book EINSTEIN'S GOD; Conversations About Science and the Human Spirit, by Krista Tippett. It is a book of interviews with some of the best minds of our time, drawn from her American Public Media's Peabody Award-winning program Speaking of Faith. "In this sparkling book of interviews, Krista Tippett demonstrates that science and religion both benefit from a genuine dialogue...(Tippet) is always probing, measured, and illuminating." - Jonah Lehrer, author of How We Decide, from the book's back cover.
The Outreach Committee will meet today at 4:30 p.m.
The Athens Area Emergency Foodbank urgently needs snack foods for children, such as granola bars or peanut butter crackers
A Wrinkle in Time: Dare to be Different! is the theme for this summer's intergenerational Vacation Bible School to be held Sunday, June 27 _ Thursday, July 1 from 5:30 _ 8:30 pm each evening. This is for all ages _ even adults without children! Each evening we will begin with a simple supper, then enjoy a skit based on the story. Then, we will break into small groups for art led by Madeline Darnell, games led by Alice Mohor, and bible story time led by Karen Hankins. Then, we gather together for songs led by Debbie Perry, Shelby and Jeff Welch, and Vicky Tavernier, followed by Compline led by Beth Long.
To volunteer, please call Catherine Drewry (706-743-3592).
Sign up for VBS by emailing nancyhobart@windstream.net or in the Parish Hall, so we’ll know how many to expect.
Parish Life is looking for volunteers to sign up to make coffee and provide the refreshments for the "coffee hour" following the 10:30 service. Fellowship is an important part of our wonderful parish life. Alice Kinman has been graciously doing this for the past year or so and now needs others to help with it. The coffee hour is the place where we can meet new members and welcome them as well as greet old friends. It is vital to life at St. Gregory but attendance has been slowly dwindling recently. We need to revitalize it! You will be trained on making coffee and cleaning up afterwards and will be asked to provide the goodies. These don't have to be home made. Donuts are always nice as well as coffee cakes or cookies. (anything will be welcome after the generic cookies of late). Coffee, milk and sugar are provided. There is a sign up sheet in the parish hall and we hope you will sign up for convenient Sundays. You will make a welcome contribution.
Something for (almost)nothing: use GoodSearch (www.goodsearch.com) to shop online or search the internet. When you designate "St. Gregory the Great Athens, GA" as the cause you support, you’ll painlessly generate money for St. Gregory’s.
