Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month

September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month. Research has shown that increasing awareness and understanding of suicide helps create stronger, more compassionate communities that support mental wellness and can play an important role in preventing future tragedies (NAMI, 2018). St. Gregory’s has a several events planned through the month of September as we come together to learn and encourage one another in the beloved community. All are invited and all are welcome!

  • St. Gregory’s Community Wall of Encouragement—displayed in the Parish Hall throughout September. Help us create a wall of hope by sharing anonymous words of encouragement! Write an uplifting message, favorite quote, prayer, gratitude, or self-care tip that has helped you through difficult seasons. Sticky notes and pens will be available at the display wall throughout the month. We invite you to add your own messages - you never know who may be uplifted by your kindness, wisdom, or hopeful perspective.

  • 9/8 Day Observance will take place on September 9 in the Parish Hall from 6:00-9:00 PM. Learn more about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline following the healing service and the many resources available to support mental health. Informational materials will be available and the labyrinth will be open.

  • Suicide Prevention Vigil September 11, 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary. We want to honor this day of remembrance. Beginning at 6:00pm, we will gather together to support one another. Music, art and poetry have been carefully chosen to honor both grief and hope.

  • Nuçi’s Space Informational Display September 13 in the Christian Education Building Come hear about our local non-profit from representative Abagail Finley in between services during coffee hour.
